The Talkative Child

Excessive talkativeness in children is one of the most annoying things for parents, but if parents realize its causes, they will deal with it in a correct and healthy manner.

Causes of talkativeness in children:

  • Feeling bored: Boredom may be an indicator of the child’s intelligence, as everything they receive at this age may be less than their potential, leading them to talk excessively. Alternatively, talkativeness could result from an attempt to challenge and escape the state of boredom they feel.

  • Lack of a sense of security: Talkativeness in a child is sometimes a means of getting rid of the anxiety they feel and their lack of a sense of security, as silence makes them think about fears they cannot face.

  • Seeking attention: If your child feels a lack of interest from the parents, they resort to chattering and talking to attract attention, because they feel the parents are not paying attention to them.

  • The presence of a behavioral problem: The child may feel a weakness in their personality or frustration, which may cause them to lose self-confidence and force them to resort to talkativeness. Therefore, you should encourage and praise your child’s behavior so that excessive talking does not become a habit, and to restore their self-confidence once again.

  • A means of showing off: Your child acquires more skills every day than the day before; therefore, they may seek to show off the words and new skills they have learned through endless chatter.
