Causes of Stubbornness
Stubbornness is one of the most common problems parents face when dealing with their children, and many do not realize that a child’s stubbornness is often a reaction to certain parental behaviors. Therefore, it is important to identify the behaviors we exhibit that may cause stubbornness in our children.
Causes of stubbornness in children:
-
Over-indulgence and pampering: Meeting the child’s every wish, regardless of what it is.
-
Quick response to crying: Giving in to the child’s demands when they pressure or embarrass the parents.
-
Modeling parents’ behavior: Imitating the nervous or stubborn temperament of the parents.
-
Inconsistency in treatment: Fluctuating between being overly strict and overly lenient.
-
Insisting on orders without explanation: Forcing the child to obey without explaining the reason or trying to persuade them.
-
The desire for autonomy: The child’s attempt to assert their identity and independence, especially if the family does not encourage this naturally.
-
Constant labeling: Repeatedly telling the child, “You are stubborn!”
