7 Reasons for Eating Disorders in Children

Sometimes our children refuse food, and we do not understand the reason behind it, which drives us to deal with them violently or harshly to force them to eat. However, if we realize the reasons behind their eating disorders, we will understand how to treat and resolve the situation and prevent it from continuing for long periods.

Causes of eating disorders in children:

  1. Ideals of thinness: When the concept that a thin body is optimal and more attractive prevails, and that a graceful figure for a woman means being thin, this undoubtedly creates a barrier between the child and food.

  2. Social pressures: Societal pressure and the constant focus on having a “perfect” body.

  3. Irregular meals: Lack of meal consistency at home can cause problems for the child regarding their relationship with food.

  4. Force-feeding: Some parents forcing their children to eat through commands or the use of violence.

  5. Overwhelming portions: Serving large quantities of food to the child and forcing them to finish the entire plate.

  6. Digestive issues: The child may suffer from gastrointestinal problems that lead to eating difficulties and disorders.

  7. Expression of anger: Refusing to eat as a form of stubbornness or as a way to vent the anger the child is experiencing.
